What to consider
when choosing a garage door

There are hundreds of garage door makes, types, styles and finishes.
A few minutes considering what you want from the door, avoids the need to go through a stack of brochures, which often show similar doors under different names, many of which may not be able to be fitted to your design of garage or meet your requirements.

Our "Contact " page, has a tick off checklist, highlighting a number of factors, which you may find useful to complete, print off and keep for reference, whilst considering the door options available.

Your garage?
An integral garage needs a door which seals out draughts, preferably insulated. For a detached garage, improving security may be the most important factor. A concrete "pre-fab" garage will need a sturdy, steel framed door.
Used for?
For a car only, a basic, good quality up & over door may be fine. For storage of tools, washing machine, freezer etc., a weatherproof door is best. For a workshop, hobby or play room, an insulated "sectional" will keep in warmth.
Security?
The level of security can be trebled, just by choosing one make or type over another.
Automated?
You may not need remote control now but wish to have the option to add it later. Automation increases comfort and convenience and can improve security. Grants and special terms may be available for customers who are registered disabled
Too narrow?
By changing the type of door, it is possible to increase the "mirror to mirror" width available for your vehicle by up to 240 mm and the headroom by up to 200 mm.
Easy to use?
Modern doors open easily, often using only one hand.
Safety?
Where a door opens on to a lane/pavement or where a door is opened from inside (integral garage), a vertically opening door will be safer, more convenient and may be stipulated by the Planning or Building Control Department. Sectional doors are unaffected by severe winds - so cannot blow in or slam shut.
Warranty?
Many of the best makes have a 10 year warranty - designed for over 25 years life.

We hope the above has indicated some questions worth considering and would be pleased to discuss your precise requirements over the telephone or demonstrate several different types of working doors, at our showroom.
